In order to take only a day trip to play golf, you should be based in San Juan Del Sur. If coming from Managua, its a 2.5 hours there, and 2.5 back, ground transfer. The course, which opened in 2004, is one of Nicaragua’s best-kept sporting secrets, despite being affordable and fun. Designed by Niels Oldenburg, the course features some tricky holes. Such as a tough up hill green on hole 4, a large tree in the fairway that swats down your drive on hole 3, and a water trap on hole 8 that is home to Omar the caiman. The highlight of the course is the spectacular 470-yard par-5 on the 5th hole. The blue tee box is located on the top of a steep hill more than 90 feet above the fairway. Nejapa Golf and Country Club

Nejapa Country Club was established in January 1940. Originally it operated from a chalet upon the hill beside Nejapa Lagoon and it featured a nine-hole golf course as well as two tennis courts. During April 1957 the Nejapa Golf and Country Club relocated closer to Managua. The new location covered an area of approximately 140 acres. A new building was erected and included a bar, restaurant and bowling alley with four lanes. On this new property they were able to set up an 18-hole golf course and also two tennis courts. Unfortunately an earthquake on 23 December 1972 ruined the Country Club's building. In 1979 the Nicaraguan golf club's facilities were further damaged during military conflict. Nejapa Golf and Country Club began reconstruction in 1998 and the new club was opened again in December 2001. Today the golf club has an 18-hole golf course, driving range, chipping area, practice green and four tennis courts with floodlights. Services offered at this Nicaraguan golf course include golf carts, caddies, lessons, a pro shop and bag storage. The clubs golf pro is Ricardo Lyon. Other great facilities enjoyed by golfing patrons are the “19th Hole” bar, a sports bar, formal dining room with bar, meeting rooms, showers, lockers and a lovely swimming pool. 30 minutes from Managua |
